If you've been following me on social media, you've seen me promise new material this year. I didn't specify what would be new, I just said there would be some changes to Urban Threads. This is the first one.
I'm pleased to present to you all the first guest writer on Urban Threads, Amanda Dobra Hope. She is a whiz at holistic living. She is a published author of several books on fulfillment and self reflection. She has her own site dedicated to finding your inner self called It's As You Like It. Her certifications and degrees include certifications as an Agent of Conscious Evolution (ACE) and Advanced ACE, a Master of Divinity in Metaphysics and a Doctorate in Holistic Life Coaching. Learn more about her on her site It's As You Like It and follow her on social media. I hope you all enjoy her words of encouragement as much as I did.
New Beginnings by Amanda Dobra Hope
A new year is a time for new beginnings. A time for quiet contemplation on what has been and what you would like to create moving forward. It is a way to mark time and a way for humans to more easily understand the metaphor of the seasons of our lives to the seasons of the natural world.
A new year, if entered into thoughtfully, will not begin with bidding good riddance to that which you didn’t enjoy, or a desperate holding on to what you’ve gained. Instead, the New Year can be a time of becoming present. Present with what’s been working so far, and what needs to be looked at so the necessary course of action can be taken—even if it’s just holding space (see Holding Space by Amanda Dobra Hope).
So as you embark on this brand new year in the middle of some of the most interesting times our planet and humanity has ever seen, it’s important to take some time for stillness and reflection in order to become the most authentic version of yourself. The world needs it.
Cultivating a self-reflection or stillness practice will help you to get to know yourself more intimately. In turn, you’ll understand what you most desire to be, do and give. It is what will guide you in every decision you make in how to show up in the world. Being in complete alignment with yourself will lead you to a sense of calm, joy and purpose.
Contemplation and self-reflection can be achieved in many ways. Some people sit in silence, journal, or meditate. Some pray and ask for answers. Some go for a hike in nature. Some work with a life coach. Whatever you choose, understand that an inner practice is best utilized when it is entered into continuously, rather than just when the calendar turns. But for now, it’s a fantastic way to start! Happy New Year!
