From crickets to Jell-O eyeballs, animals will receive their special treats when they are let out or during Keeper Talks, an informational session presented by a zoo keeper about specific animals at the Nashville Zoo. They will have Keeper Talks every 30 minutes from 9:30 am-2:30 pm. So if you’d like to learn about some of the cool animals at the Nashville Zoo and see how they trick or treat, head over to the ticket booth at the Nashville Zoo for an admissions ticket. This special event will last from 9 am-4 pm.

Fall Gardening Class Series Last spring, I wrote about the Davidson County Master Gardeners teaching informal gardening classes behind the Grassmere Historic Farm at the Nashville Zoo. This time, they are hosting fall gardening sessions. These sessions are free to Zoo patrons with an admission ticket to the Nashville Zoo. After 18 years of restoring and up keeping the gardens at the Grassmere Historic Farm, the Davidson County Master Gardeners are the perfect people to seek any gardening help. The Master Gardeners will answer patrons’ questions, hand out soil sample kits, handouts and more. Additionally, the Master Gardeners discuss useful gardening topics such as canning, seed saving, and fall preparation for spring planting. If interested in attending these gardening classes, visit the Nashville Zoo every Saturday in October at 11 am. In case you can’t attend all sessions, below is a date breakdown of what topics will be covered on certain days:

Boo at the Zoo
It is time for the Nashville Zoo’s annual Boo at the Zoo event. Starting Oct. 14, Zoo patrons and their children have ten nights to celebrate Halloween at the zoo. Boo at the Zoo is an annual event for children to take carousel rides and behind-the-scenes hayrides, haunted tours and go on candy trails to trick-or-treat. Patrons will get a chance to visit the talking pumpkin! Not only will this be spooky, fun experience, but the animal trails will remain open at a later time than usual. The Africa Field will close at 8:30 pm. The Shell Station will close at 7:30 pm. The Flamingo Lagoon will close at 8:30 pm. There will be a corn pit, dance parties and more. Every person is required to have a ticket, even children under 2. Tickets may be printed or shown on the phone. Ticket prices vary, but there’s a special offer for the first weekend. During the first weekend, zoo members ticket price is $10 and non-members ticket price is $13. Children under 2 are free. No refunds or rainchecks. Boo at the Zoo will end on Oct. 30th. *Costumes are encouraged!
