A Fun, Inexpensive Summer For All

6/19/2015

June 21st is almost here which means the first day of summer is four days away! Get ready for new adventures, refreshing drinks, family outings, and most importantly, sunny days! After our horrendous ice storm this past winter, it is time to enjoy the pleasant weather of the outdoors. Continue to read for more information about summer events to attend in Nashville that will not leave your pockets empty!

First and foremost, most people enjoy music. What better place to listen to great music than Nashville? Nashville happens to have Musicians Corner. Musicians Corner is a free concert series that is held in Centennial Park each Saturday during the months of May, June, September and October. This concert series feature musical performances from some of Nashville’s finest artists. This event also includes family friendly activities for the little ones! From noon to evening, natives and tourists may taste some of Nashville’s award winning food trucks on the lawn. To top it off, this event is FREE! Find out the date of the next Musicians Corner by clicking Musicians Corner. Keep in mind that there are free concert series for practically every genre of music to attend if this one doesn’t catch your interest.

Now that we have partially covered the music scene, let’s proceed to the artistic scene of Nashville. The first Saturday of every month, from 6pm-9pm, Nashville hosts an Art Crawl. On this night, art galleries in the downtown Nashville area provides the public with free admission. During Nashville’s Art Crawl, the public may view the artwork of local visual artists featured in the Nashville Arts magazine. There are shuttle buses to transport people from gallery to gallery during the Art Crawl. It is a great way to support local artists as many of them are having their artwork featured in a gallery for the first time! Mark your calendar for next month’s Art Crawl!

Summer leisure activities don’t have to include extravagant vacations or even leaving the house for that matter. Like me, you may try to squeeze in some late night subject reviews or read books off of your personal “summer reading list.” Either way, education plays an important part in the enjoyment of your summer. Trust me, retaining information from school makes for a smoother fall semester! Anyhow, there are plenty of educational activities to do in Nashville for all ages. Libraries are a great place to start in your search for educational activities.

The Nashville Public Library hosts summer readings with great rewards for children, teens, and adults. To make reading fun, Nashville Public Library has it where your child and teen can get passes to an attraction of their choice (Wave Country, Nashville Shores, Centennial Sportsplex and others) by simply reading! They may also submit an entry to win an iPad mini. Lastly, the Nashville Public Library throws all of the summer readers a massive party at the downtown Nashville location. The adults may get in on the summer reading experience, too! Also, local libraries have many public readings from authors, musical/theatrical performances, and movie events during the summer. Visit your closest library or Nashville Public Library for more details. Most of the libraries activities and events are open to the public.

Lastly, it wouldn’t be a summer without a splash of water at some point during the blazing hot months of June and July! Find yourself a community pool to dip your toe in or visit a friend with a pool. Rent jet skis and boats from Nashville Shores or play capture the flag in a local park. Catch some waves at Wave Country or host a water balloon fight in your backyard. Whatever you do, make sure you have a blast doing it! Some will spend their summer studying abroad while others catch a movie in the park. Whichever way you choose to spend your summer, be sure to make it memorable!

Taste Parts of Nashville This Summer-Part 2

Big named country stars and live concerts have been the trademark for many Nashville summers but there seems to be something non music related sharing that spotlight. That something is food! That’s right, Nashville has become the center of attention for good eating. From midtown to downtown and beyond, Nashville is experiencing a rise in new eateries. Every Nashvillian has a favorite grub spot. I happen to have multiple spots! Here is where I share my list of top ten favorite restaurants that will surely leave a memorable taste in your mouth. Grab your keys and wallet!

Edley’s Bar-B-Que

Known for their southern-styled sides and briskets, Edley’s serves Nashville with the best barbequed meats in town! On top of the great barbeque, I love their fish tacos and cornbread. Their food is always fresh. The prices are reasonable. Their sides are amazing and their staff is friendly. Go here if you are looking for a nice outing filled with great barbeque! Did I mention they have a bar and outdoor patio? It is perfect for the summer. Edley’s is located at 908 Main Street.

Rodizio Grill the Brazilian Steakhouse

Rodizio Grill the Brazilian Steakhouse made it in Yelp’s Top 3 Rated Nashville Steakhouses in 2014. I ate at Rodizio Grill for the first time on my birthday this past April. It was unbelievably fantastic! The way that the restaurant works is each table is given a half-green, half-red gavel with the symbols of a pig and check on opposite sides. The customers must flip the gavel onto either the red or green side to be served. The green side with the pig indicates that the customer’s table is ready to be served meats. Once on this side, servers will carry different types of meats to each table with the pig side up. Each customer is given tonsils, a plate, and silverware. The tonsils are to be used to pull off sliced portions off of the stake of meats the servers bring to your table. The meal is about $35 per person for unlimited meats, access to the salad bar, and appetizers. The price is more than fair for an all you can eat. You may stay at this restaurant for as long as you can stomach! According to Nashville Scene, Rodizio Grill the Brazilian Steakhouse was voted one of Nashville’s Best New Restaurant in 2013. Trust me, this place is worth checking out! They also host private and public events! Rodizio Grill the Brazilian Steakhouse is located at 166 2nd Ave N.

Five Points Pizza

New York styled pizza has made its way to Nashville! Located in the Woodland St. area, Five Points Pizza has the perfect prices for great pizza. Not only is their pizza great but their garlic knots are to die for! Five Points Pizza gets pretty crowded but it is not impossible to get into the restaurant. You can also place a pickup order by calling. Five Points Pizza has live performances and specials daily. Headlining locals, Five Points Pizza creates an enjoyable environment for all present. The staff is always nice and quick. They love getting first timers at their establishment. They are always willing to help you with anything! This makes for a great summer outing for one person or an entire family!

Sir Pizza

If you are looking for a gourmet styled pizza, check out Sir Pizza. There are a few locations you can choose from in Nashville. There is one on Charlotte Avenue in the Richland Creek Shopping Center, on Lebanon Pike, and on Gallatin Pike S. I have not been to the Lebanon Pike location but I have tried the Charlotte Ave. and Gallatin Pike S. The Gallatin Pike S. location is my favorite! I believe this was the original location. When I go to Sir Pizza, I order the Farmer’s Almanac. This menu styled pizza includes beef, mushrooms, baked ham, pepperoni, sausage, green olives, black olives, onions, and green peppers. You order by the inches. Sir Pizza has a lunch buffet which includes unlimited pizza, pasta and salad all week between 11am and 2pm. Also, Sir Pizza has a daily special of buy one large and get a small one topping pizza for $2. On Tuesday nights, if you dine-in any time between 5pm to 9pm, you can buy one get one free or get the carry out special of buy one get a small for $1, medium for $2, and large for $3. I suggest you try it tomorrow! If you see me there, mention the blog and say, “Hey!” I believe Sir Pizza is now delivering to select areas.

Five Guys

Using peanut oil only, Five Guys handcrafted hamburgers and freshly cut fries are delicious. Five Guys offer 250,000 ways to order a burger because of their many toppings. It is truly a place where any burger can be made! Usually, I stop at Five Guys on my way to Centennial Park. It is a great place to eat on a sunny, summer day! Their seasoned fries are served in a brown paper bag, which gives you a lot of fries for your buck. Although I have not tried it, I have been told by many that Five Guys make some mean hotdogs. I plan to order a hotdog at my next visit to Five Guys. Five Guys is located on West End Avenue.

I hope you have enjoyed reviewing my favorite food selections in Nashville. If you find yourself searching for a place to eat in Nashville this week, try one of my favorite restaurants. I’m almost positive you won’t regret it!
